Map

January 2001. NMP.
A group of ditches and banks is visible at TF 69 34, as earthworks, on the 1944 aerial photographs (S1). There are three sections of bank, one of which has an associated ditch, and four additional ditches to the north. Of the ditches, one runs southwest, possibly following the line of NHER 26733, while two zig-zag shaped ditches run east to west and the fourth runs alongside a section of bank. In the 1971 aerial photographs (S2) only the zig-zag ditches can be seen. They can also be seen on 1972 aerial photographs (S3), as can the two more westerly sections of bank, as a slight earthwork, despite ploughing. On the enclosure map of 1765 (S4) the two zig-zag ditches would have been located in 'Horse Marsh'. The upper of these ditches is depicted on the Ordnance Survey 2nd edition map (S5), which suggests that this area has been drained and needed substantial ditches to keep it drained. Also piles of spoil alongside the lower ditch on 1972 aerial photographs suggest that it had been cleared out and was still in use. The ditch running southwest partially follows the line of a watercourse depicted on the enclosure map, while sections of bank are quite close to field boundaries depicted on both the enclosure and Ordnance Survey maps. It would seem that these features all formed some sort of post medieval drainage/boundary arrangement.

Additional section of bank visible from TF 6952 4297 to TF 6963 4302 on 1967 OS aerial photographs (S6). This is likely to further elements of post medieval field boundaries in the area.
