Summary

Map

January 2001. NMP.
A circular bank with an internal depression, about 14m in diameter, can be seen as an earthwork on 1945 aerial photographs (S1). It appears to have a gap in the bank to the southeast. The same feature can be seen on 1971 and 1972 aerial photographs (S2)-(S3). It is difficult to say what its exact function was. There is a possibility that it may have been a World War Two gun emplacement, but this is not very likely, as the feature stands alone and on the 1945 aerial photographs, it is not particularly 'fresh'.
A. Hunt (NMP), 24 January 2001.
