Map

September 2002. Norfolk NMP.
Series of large scale field boundaries, appearing to be both banks and ditches, visible on 1946 RAF aerial photographs (S1) and 1974 OS aerial photographs (S2). Some of the soilmarks are extremely broad, being over 30m spreads in places. Although it is possible that natural gullies have been incorporated into boundaries within the field system. This one and another one parallel to it, seem to form the main southwest to northeast axis, off of which come parallel east to west boundaries, all approximately 150m apart. None of these boundaries appear to bear any relationship to the modern land division, although it is possible that these fields are medieval to post medieval in date. As mentioned above, it is possible that one or two of these features are natural gullies, however, the arrangement of linears is quite regular in places. Therefore the dating and even archaeological origin of these possible fields is very uncertain.
S. Massey (NMP), 27 September 2002.
