Location

Map sheet TF84SW
Civil Parish BURNHAM MARKET, WEST NORFOLK, NORFOLK

Map

May 2002. Norfolk NMP.
Site previously recorded as part of NHER 12149, prior to NMP mapping of the cropmarks on 1976 NLA oblique aerial photographs (S1).
Two parallel ditches run from TF 8050 4233 to TF 8063 4213. They appear to define 237m of a trackway, 13.5m wide. The ditches are up to 1m wide. At the southern end of the site, several other parallel ditches are visible. In particular two outer ditches, the longest of these is 40m wide. The date of this trackway is unknown. It is possible that it dates to the Roman period, however, it may be a much later feature, potentially medieval or later.
S. Massey (NMP), 24 May 2002.
