Map

February 2001. Norfolk NMP.
Around fifty structures are visible in the area of TF 845 456 to TF 854 458 on 1946 aerial photography. The structures range in size from about 5 to 15m long. Many have no particular distinguishing features, but there may be a pillbox at TF 8481 4566, a nissen hut at TF 8501 4573, and there are two flat roofed concrete structures at TF 8503 4568 and TF 8481 4566. These buildings would appear to be some kind of World War Two complex, probably for practice. In some cases the marks of the buildings foundations are visible, further suggesting a World War Two date, as some may have been removed following the end of World War Two. The area they are located in is called Gun Hill and other possible features from different periods have been noted there (NHER 1729).
A. Hunt (Suffolk CC NMP), 2 February 2001.

May-November 2004. Norfolk Rapid Coastal Zone Archaeological Survey.
Inter-tidal survey (Environmental Zone 8), Context 1081:
Two concrete footings (one rectangular and one D- shaped) and a set of concrete steps. They were situated on raised ground at the northern edge of saltmarsh close to Gun Hill (between TF 84975 45643 and TF 8495 45637).
See assessment report (S2) for further details.
The associated archive has been deposited with the Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 2017.421).
