Summary

Fieldwalking in this area during 2002 recovered a fragment of lava quern, pieces of iron slag and medieval and post medieval pottery sherds.

September 2002. Fieldwalking training. Poor soil conditions, ploughed but not well weathered, sunny. No subdivision of area walked by approximately forty-five people. Field now amalgamated with fields to north and west, the southeast corner lies against the road running along the edge of former common pasture which was coterminous with New Buckenham Common.
Fourteen medieval unglazed sherds (including three basal).
One Late medieval transistional sherd.
Some post medieval sherds.
One lava quern fragment.
Few lumps of iron slag.
N.B. a great majority of the medieval material and the iron slag and quern were recovered from the eastern part of the field (that nearest to the former common).
