Full Description
August 2001 and October 2002. Fieldwalking.
On arable in area of late medieval wood and area to east showed a thin scatter of medieval sherds over the southern part of the wood, one minor concentration on a former common edge at the north end. This suggests that the wood, even if 'ancient' was cleared in the late 12th century and remained so for some of the 13th century. Some post medieval pottery and one Roman sherd found.
See (S1) in file.
A. Rogerson (NLA), March 2003.
July - August 2008. Metal-detecting.
1 medieval roof tile fragment and 1 iron barrel padlock.
1 post-medieval pottery sherd (GRE), 2 buckle frames and 1 pocket sundial/ring dial.
Ceramic items identified by A. Rogerson (NLA) and other objects by S. Ashley (NLA). See list in file.
A. Rogerson (NLA), 12 September 2008.
