The site of a possible World War Two type 22 pillbox may be visible on aerial photographs to the north of the South Walsham Road, Acle (S4-S5). The site is centred on TG 3956 1103. This possible structure has not been mapped as part of the NMP project, as the aerial photographic evidence was not conclusive as to whether the polygonal or circular feature visible was a camouflaged pillbox or a haystack or similar agricultural feature. The feature looks particularly agricultural in February 1946 (S4). More conclusive aerial photographic evidence would be required to identify the structure for certain.
S. Massey (NMP), 30 May 2007.
