Full Description
Site of World War Two spigot mortar emplacement, now built over.
Listed as 'to be removed' in 1950.
See (S1).
E. Rose (NLA), 23 April 2003.
May 2007. Norfolk NMP.
A small structure visible on aerial photographs (S2), at TG 4021 1046, could equate to the World War Two spigot mortar emplacement described above. Not only, however, is there a discrepancy between the location of this structure and the grid reference given for the site in documentary sources (see (S3), the location of the structure – surrounded by houses and at a distance from both roads – would seem to be counterproductive for a fixed defence. Its interpretation is therefore uncertain at present. (The polygon defining the limits of the site takes in both possible locations.)
S. Tremlett (NMP), 26 May 2007.
