Summary

This County Primary School was built in 1875, with additions in 1895 and 1908. This single-storey H-plan building is of coursed, squared and dressed carrstone ashlar, with Bath-stone dressings, and slate roofs. There is an octagonal belfy over the central cupola, which was replaced after damage in 1982.

Listing Description excerpt:
"County Primary School. 1875, with additions of 1895 and 1908. Coursed, squared and dressed carstone ashlar with Bath-stone dressings, slated roofs. Single storey, H-plan. To south two returned gabled cross wings with three-light wooden tracery Gothic arch headed casements. Stone quoins, banding, kneelers and coped gables. Centre has gabled central window with three trefoil headed lights, tile-hung typanum and Gothic arch. Two flanking single light casements. Two angle porches. Central cupola with battered, slated base, octagonal belfry with spire, replaced after the damage in 1982."

Listed as 1875, built at a cost of £2000; extended 1895 and 1908.
Coursed square carrstone with Bath stone dressings. Single storey H-plan with two gable wings to south having modern Gothic style tracery. Stone decoration to gables. Gabled centre window to main block below tile hung tympanum and Gothic arch, flanked by single light casements. Two porches in angles. Central cupola, octagonal belfry with spire replaced 1982.
(S2) says there is documentary evidence that the school was designed by Butterfield.
