Map

December 2002. Norfolk NMP.
The feature is sub-oval in plan (S1) with a north-west to south-east length of 48m and a width of 35m. In April 1946 the feature appears as a lighter coloured or parched area with a darker irregular shaped anomaly at its centre (S1). In September 1988 the feature appears as a low sub-oval earthwork (S2). The feature is likely to represent the remains of a salt production site, situated within the meander of a former saltmarsh channel. The position of the feature, to the north of the Sea Bank (NHER 2187), might suggest a Post-Saxon or medieval date, although an earlier date cannot be entirely discounted at this stage of the proceedings.
M. Brennand (NMP), 18 December 2002.
