NHER 27166 (Monument record) - Cropmarks of undated but possibly medieval saltern mounds

The features appear as two separate sub-oval areas of lighter coloured or parched crop (S1), although they may have originally been all one mound or site. The westernmost feature has a north to south length of 35m and a width of 27m. The eastern feature has a north to south of 48m and a width of 23m. The mounds are part of a group of sparsely distributed mounds within this area, that were presumably once positioned on the edges of saltmarsh channels. The position of the mounds, to the seaward side of the Sea Bank (NHER 2187), might suggest a post Saxon or medieval date but an earlier date cannot be ruled out.
