January 2003. Norfolk NMP.
Two parallel running linear features are visible to the immediate south of the Sea Bank (NHER 2187), aligned in a northeast to southwest direction (S1). The northern most feature runs from TF 5703 2106 to TF 5698 2103 and has a recorded length of 58m. The southernmost feature runs from TF 5707 2106 to TF 5697 2098 and has a recorded length of 125m. The features appear to project from each side of a 'goule' (S2) or breached hole behind the sea bank. This feature was allegedly caused by the sea breaching the bank, and then eroding a circular depression within the area of the breach. The Sea Bank was then reconstructed around the northern side of the depression and the features appear to be in alignment with the ditch on the southern side of the Sea Bank at this point. It is not certain whether the features actually relate to the break in the sea bank or are simply unrelated land boundaries, but a medieval date is possible for the ditches.
M. Brennand (NMP), 6 January 2003.
