Map

January 2003. Norfolk NMP.
The feature has a sub-rounded horseshoe shape in plan with a maximum diameter of 47m (S1). The feature is visible as light-coloured cropmark with a parched appearance that is indicative of a saltern mound. However, the feature is within the area of Welbeck Farm (S2) and the anomaly may have actually been caused by agricultural disturbance or building activity. The characteristic shape and appearance of the feature might suggest that the farm buildings were located on a former saltern mound to gain an advantage in elevation. If the feature were a saltern mound a medieval date, based on another mound within the area, is possible.
M. Brennand (NMP), 7 January 2003.
