Map

January 2003. Norfolk NMP.
The westernmost linear feature is aligned in an approximate south-east to north-west direction (TF 5675 2090 to TF 5666 2100) and is visible for a total length of 133m (S1). The possible easternmost linear feature is more ephemeral (S1), visible in four distinct short stretches with an overall length of 122m (from TF 5678 2093 to TF 5669 2101). The westernmost ditch appears as relatively straight and narrow feature and may be a field or drove boundary, but may equally be the course of a modern pipe trench. The easternmost ditch is considerably less distinct and may also be a field boundary but could equally be caused by a geologically natural feature. If these features were ditches, defining fields or a droveway, there is a possibility that they pre-date the Sea Bank (NHER 2187), suggesting a Roman date, although this seems unlikely.
Between the two ditches (TF 5670 2097) are two potential ring ditches or curvilinear ditches, although they are both extremely ephemeral and may also be caused by natural phenomena. The southern feature, as identified by S. Massey (NMP), appears as a full circle, while the northern feature is only visible as a semi-circle. On 1946 images (S2) the ring ditches are not visible although the area within them appears as a lighter, parched colour suggesting they may be saltern mounds, although this is not certain. Could be archaeological or could be natural although the location suggests they are unlikely to be Bronze Age.
M. Brennand (NMP), 15 January 2003.
