Map

January 2003. Norfolk NMP.
The bank is visible for a length of 125m (S1) running south-westwards from the junction of the Sea Bank (NHER 2187) and a possible earlier course of the Sea Bank (NHER 27204). The bank presumably ran beyond the current recorded extents and an extension of this bank might be projected extending further to the south-west beneath Sandygate Lane, although it is difficult to discern between a former bank and a modern causeway. It is possible that this length of bank is modern.
It is possible that this length of bank is associated with the possible bank NHER 27201, and predates the course of NHER 2187, situated to the north. This might also suggest that the line of NHER 2187 in this area is a medieval expansion, and the course of the Late Saxon (or earlier) bank was further to the south. Although the course of such a bank cannot be discerned it may now lie beneath roads.
M. Brennand (NMP), 18 February 2003.
