Map

March 2003. Norfolk NMP.
The westernmost feature (TF 6410 2547) is amorphous and irregular in plan (S1), with the course of a former saltmarsh channel running along its western and eastern sides. The mound has a north to south length of 43m. The eastern feature (TF 6414 2548) is sub-triangular in plan, although it has almost certainly been truncated by ditched boundaries which appear to have removed its northern and southern sides. The feature has an east to west length of 41m. These mounds, along with salterns NHER 27767 and 27768, are on the eastern, landward side of the large saltern complex at North Wootton, suggesting they are some of the earliest mounds in the area. A Late Saxon or an early medieval date seems likely for the formation of these mounds.
M. Brennand (NMP), 6 March 2003.
