NHER 27032 (Monument record) - Possible medieval moated site

October 2002. Norfolk NMP.
The site appears as a possible sub-rectangular to irregular ditched enclosure, with its long axis aligned in a north to south direction (S1). The probable site of the south-western corner of the enclosure is within a ploughed field and is not visible. The ditched area has an internal north to south length of 90m and a maximum width of 50m. The ditch has a maximum width of 11m.
A large sub-rounded area within the possible enclosure appears slightly raised and has a lighter, parched appearance. This may be a mound formed by the material excavated from the surrounding ditches, but equally may be a redundant saltern mound, utilised for a later occupation site. The site may simply be a salt production site, with unusually regular and large channels excavated around its circumference. The date of the site cannot be determined but a medieval or Post medieval date seems most likely. It must be stressed that the site appears within unusual heath vegetation and may be of non antiquity.
