Map

October 2002. Norfolk NMP.
The stretch of bank is visible for a length of approximately 1.75 km (S2), although it originally extended further to the west, but has since been truncated by the Lynn Channel (S1 and S3). The bank is aligned in an approximate north-west to south-east direction and has an approximate width of 7.5m.
At the time of its construction this bank probably formed the western bank of the Great Ouse River (the Lynn Channel) although re-routing of the channel during the 1850’s means that this bank is now on the eastern side of the river. The feature is probably eighteenth century in date and is probably depicted on Faden’s map (S5). By the time of the first edition Ordnance Survey (S4) the bank has been superseded by bank NHER 5529, to its immediate east.
M. Brennand (NMP), 11 October 2002.
