Full Description
October 2002. Norfolk NMP.
The group consists of three mounds (S1) centred on TF 6310 2330, TF 6313 2335 and TF 6323 2333, although the easternmost two mounds were possibly originally one large horseshoe shaped feature. The western mound is sub-rounded in plan with a diameter of 37m, while the easternmost two mounds together have a potential maximum diameter of 150m.
These features form part of a dense concentration of saltern mounds located along the saltmarsh in North and South Wootton. Direct dating evidence is scarce but isolated finds of pottery would suggest that the majority of the mounds are medieval in date.
