Map

June 2003. Norfolk NMP.
Two low irregular to sub-rounded mounds are visible (S1) centred on TF 6276 2157 and TF 6278 2151. The mounds have maximum diameters of 58m and 66m. These are almost certainly medieval saltern mounds, formed by piles of waste sand during salt processing. They are part of a large group of mounds on the former saltmarsh to the east and north of King’s Lynn. The finds retrieval area NHER 5524 is 100m to the south of these mounds. The description for that site describes the levelling of two mounds and the retrieval of lead fragments, burnt clay and medieval pottery - typical debris of salt production. It is possible that this site was the one described in NHER 5524.
M. Brennand (NMP), 26 June 2003.
