Summary

During a 2003 walkover survey a cluster of nine timbers was observed amongst a peat bed. They were arranged in a rectilinear fashion, suggesting that they had been deliberately laid within the peat, possibly as a trackway or platform. Two of the timbers have been shown by radiocarbon dating to be Bronze Age.

Holme platform I.

February to March 2003. NAU survey.
On surface of peat a cluster of nine logs and/or straight branches. Five roughly parallel pieces were aligned northwest to southeast whilst just to the northwest were four pieces aligned northeast to southwest. This rectilinear arrangement suggested that they had been deliberately laid within the peat. Possibly the remains of a trackway or platform.
