Summary

A 2003 walkover survey discovered a possible platform or trackway made up from posts and horizontally laid timbers. Two of the timbers have been dated to the Bronze Age using radiocarbon methods. The two dates are not statistically consistent and probably suggest material was either reused in the construction of the structure or that it was refurbished during its lifetime.

J. Allen (NLA), 23 April 2003.

September 2003. Site visit.
Monument found easily without Global Positioning Satellite.
Whole area had a covering of sand - this obscures all the timbers but two.
D. Robertson (NAU), 21 October 2003.

January/February 2004.
In both January and February 2004 the whole area had a covering of sand.
In January the sand obscured all the timbers but the southernmost post. It was sampled for timber identification and radiocarbon dating. In February it was not visible.
In February two timbers in the northeastern part of the monument were visible. One of these was a new horizontal timber; the other was seen for the first time since July 2003. The new timber was sampled for timber identification and radiocarbon dating.
The timbers returned radiocarbon dates of 1750-1510 cal BC and 2010-1690 cal BC. These dates are not statistically consistent and probably suggest reuse of material or the refurbishment of the structure.
See (S3).
D. Robertson (NLA), 25 May 2006.
