NHER 26911 (Cropmark and Earthwork record) - Undated enclosure

The cropmarks of some form of enclosure are visible and have been mapped from the 1970 ADAS aerial photographs (S1)-(S2). It appears to consist of a main sub-rectangular enclosure of about 43m by 64m, centred on NGR TF7075 4319. In the northern section of this there is an east to west linear subdividing this main area. This linear runs from TF7073 4320 to TF7077 4321 creating two smaller enclosures, one of 43m by 18m, the other of 43m by 46m. Just to the north of the main enclosure there is another linear ditch running from NGR TF7075 4323 to TF7079 4323. It is parallel to the northernmost side of the main enclosure.
It should also be noted that the ditch on the western side of the main enclosure seems to extend a short way beyond the northern edge (about 10m) and two further north to south linear ditches can be seen as cropmarks leading away from it on approximately the same alignment (TF7072 4323 to TF7072 4327 and TF7973 4323 to TF7072 4326). Also there appears to be an additional east to west ditch (TF7070 4322 to TF7073 4323) crossing between these and the ‘extended’ enclosure ditch. All this possibly suggesting a continuation of the enclosure, or some form of complex.
The origin and date of these features are unknown. There is no sign of them on the 2nd edition Ordnance Survey map (S3).
