Summary

Cropmarks of a linear bank and three linear ditches can be seen on 1969 Hunting Survey and 1972 OS vertical and 1996 NLA oblique aerial photographs. The date and origin of these features is uncertain, though it is possible that they have at least a post-medieval date.

Map

May 2002. Norfolk NMP.
Cropmarks of a linear bank and three linear ditches can be seen on 1969 Hunting Survey (S1) and 1972 OS (S2) vertical and 1996 NLA oblique (S3) aerial photographs The linear bank is located between T7432 4167 and TF7451 4176 and it is about 210m long and 10m wide. Along the northern side of it there appears to be a ditch along its edge. It is possible that this bank is a relic field boundary, as other features in this area appear to be. However this, unlike the others, is not marked on the 2nd edition OS map (S4) and has thus been plotted. (Those marked on the 2nd edition OS have not been plotted). As this bank is not represented on the modern (S5) or 2nd edition OS maps it seems possible that it has a post-medieval date, at least.
As well as the features already mentioned 2 possible linear features (ditches) can be seen at an angle to the main bank and at its ends. The one to the south west is located between TF7431 4175 and TF7429 4159. The one to the north east is located between TF7447 4180 and TF7455 4172. The origin and date of these features is unknown, but it is possible that they are in someway associated with the main bank, which could then suggest at least a post-medieval date?
