Summary

Metal-detecting in 1993 recovered a medieval or post medieval gilded copper alloy handle fragment in the form of a lion holding a shield, the curls of its mane very finely modelled.

May 1993. Metal detecting.
Gilded copper alloy 13th century cast bronze handle fragment, in form of a lion rampant, holding a shield on which is a profile man's head facing left. Loop of wire through the lion's jaws. Broken at 'hindquarters.' Hollow socket. Curls of mane very finely modelled. (S1).
