Full Description
No name or number on GIS or on house; adjacent to No. 9 Common Close.
Large house aligned north to south, between common and 20th century housing estate. Hipped roof, north stack internal to wall but freestanding above roof. Two storeys and in two sections with central vertical join. North end appears pre-modern brickwork, south end more recent, but only seen from distance. However shape suggests antiquity.
Garden wall to common has gate formed from reused limestone, see NHER 39445 to south.

March 2009. Building Survey of disused farmhouse prior to demolition.
The building has two distinct phases with a larger northern element dating to the last quarter of the 17th century representing a transitional phase from purely vernacular forms to the new styles of architecture. The building appears to have been originally constructed from brick and its windows represents the legacy of the 17th century transom and mullion form pre-dating the introduction of sash windows. The house was extended between 1680 and 1720 with a new parlour range to the south, of which the upper chamber survives with some modifications. In the 19th century interventions included a new staircase. More recent modernisation and remodelling means that original finishings have been removed but several early doors and other fixtures and fittings survive.
