Map

July 2003. Norfolk NMP.
This length of bank has an unusual form, and it is possibly not all one contemporary build. The bank is visible running down the eastern side of the polygonal boundary around decoy pond NHER 28166 (S1) and then towards the southeast for a further 200m, down the northern side of a channel or drain. The feature then crosses the drain, and returns running up its southern side and into the decoy enclosure, running down the side of one of the arms of the decoy.

The exact purpose of this bank is unclear. It may be the remnants of a larger system of flood or sea defence that has been fossilised around the decoy pond, although it does not easily fit with the other banks within this area. It is suggested this bank was related to the decoy pond, possibly designed to control the flow of water into the decoy pond.
M. Brennand (NMP), 11 July 2003.
