Summary

Aerial photography from 1946 records the presence of a small jetty, some 30 to 35m in length, on this site. It appears to have been use at the time of the photograph, although only part of it survived in later photographs of 1953 and 1988.

Map

June 2001. Norfolk NMP.
Some form of small jetty is visible on the RAF 1946 aerial photographs (S1), which is 30/35m in length. Only part of this structure, two rows of posts parallel to each other, remains visible on subsequent photography (NLA (S3), BKS (S4) and RAF Floodlight (1953) (S2) aerial photographs). It appears to still be in use in the early photographs.
On some photographs (RAF 1945 (S5)) it appears that the jetty might be slightly longer than mapped, possibly extending slightly further on to land. However, this is uncertain.
H. Clare (NMP), 26 June 2001.

May-November 2004. Norfolk Rapid Coastal Zone Archaeological Survey.
Inter-tidal survey (Environmental Zone 4), Context 1008:

Jetty composed of nine pairs of upright wooden posts (each up to 1.7m tall), with one timber cross piece surviving. Aligned roughly east to west.
See assessment report (S6) for further details.
The associated archive has been deposited with the Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 2017.421).
