Map

August 2002. Norfolk NMP.
Two buildings of unknown origin can be seen on 1945 RAF aerial photographs (S1). They are both located to the west of the southern coastal lagoon at Snettisham, at NGR TF6480 3071 and TF6478 3080 and in size appear to be around 5m by 3m and 3m by 3m respectively. It is possible that they have a military (World War Two) origin (there is a minefield, military camp and training area located along the coast to the north). However, it is also possible that they are connected to the gravel extraction site to the north (Etna Stone and Shingle Co. - see NHER 13757).
These buildings can also be seen on later aerial photographs (S2).
H. Clare (NMP), 22 August 2002.

May-November 2004. Norfolk Rapid Coastal Zone Archaeological Survey.
Inter-tidal survey (Environmental Zone 3), Context 1007:
Located on sand dune behind beach, between TF 64805 30714 and TF 64810 30690.
A raised platform with central metal and concrete base, with an area of broken and blackened concrete and concentrations of barbed wire. Largely in-situ remains, with some items loose close to where they were constructed or abandoned.
Most probably World War Two military defences.
See assessment report (S3) for further details.
The associated archive has been deposited with the Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 2017.421).
J. Allen (NLA), 13 April 2005. Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 21 July 2019.
