Map

May 2002. Norfolk NMP.
The cropmark and earthwork sequence within this area appears complex and is most likely to represent multi period activity, although largely from the later medieval or post medieval periods. Within the south of the area are a series of banks and ditches, which are likely to be, land division and drainage features (S1 and S3). One of the ditches appears to be an extension from the embanked enclosure within NHER 27817. This possibly post dates a large curvilinear ditch, with traces of a bank on its eastern side, which may represent a routeway or part of a substantial enclosure boundary.
Within the southeastern corner of the site, to the immediate west of the River Burn (TF 8571 4081) (S3), is a relatively small embanked rectangular enclosure. The enclosure has a north to south length of 18m and minimum width of 9m. This feature is not depicted on Faden’s Map (S5) but a building is recorded in this location on the first edition Ordnance Survey of 1810-20 (S6). The eastern side of the enclosure is now formed by the River Burn, although an embanked eastern side may have been eroded away. The date of the structure probably coincides with the canalising of this stretch of the Burn, and the feature may represent the site of a water mill, although no leat, race, pond or reservoir is visible. So, maybe not a mill.
