Map

July 2002. Norfolk NMP.
The area containing the features is partially bounded by a meandering saltmarsh channel and has rounded edges. The ridges and furrows are divided into two distinct areas, also divided by a saltmarsh channel. The ridges and furrows are relatively short and wide, aligned in approximately east to west directions. This area was probably protected by the sea bank NHER 27853 when the features were cut, which may be late seventeenth or eighteenth century in date. Therefore the features are likely to be late seventeenth century at the earliest.
These may represent a form of lazy-bedding to aid agriculture on the newly reclaimed saltmarsh, although they may equally represent some form of water channelling to promote grass growth.
M. Brennand (NMP), 1 July 2002.
