Map

August 2003. Trial Trenching.
Two evaluation trenches excavated in advance of proposed redevelopment.
Trench 1 revealed a remnant of a possible medieval flint surface, which was heavily truncated by a later well. Also rubbish pits, foundations and floor surfaces, a robber trench, and a beam slot containing the end of a large timber which had a rectangular, pegged mortice joint holding an upright post, possibly as part of a building.
Trench 2: Medieval pits, including possible quarry pits, a boundary ditch, a baked clay hearth, possible post holes, a mortar wall foundation and a floor were found. There was evidence of late medieval/early post medieval pitting and a robber cut and post medieval cess pits.
