Summary

This L shaped building is very complex. At least parts of it date to the 16th century including a high status room with fireplace, a shop and a store room. The grand cellars with niches, arches and access to the shop and exterior probably also date to this period. The complex could have been used for storing and selling flax or baskets. The building was dramatically altered around 1700 when the façade was remodelled and new chimney stacks were inserted at each end of the street block. In the 20th century the shop front and a pentise were added. Two pairs of shoes and some animal bones were found in the building - these may have been a ritual deposit.
