Summary

Two parallel trackways and a number of probable field boundaries, that probably date to the post medieval period, are visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs. It is possible that at least some of the features are in fact part of the Iron Age and Roman settlement and field system to the west (NHER 38463).

Map

February 2004, Norfolk NMP
Two parallel trackways and a number of apparently associated ditches, visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs (S1) to (S2) and centred around TG 2059 3548, appear to conform to the general pattern of post medieval fields as depicted on historic maps (S3). Although a post medieval date seems likely for these features, the possibility that at least some of them form part of the Iron Age and Roman settlement and field system to their west (NHER 38463) should be borne in mind, since both share the same approximate alignment.

Almost 160m of the northern trackway is visible, running approximately west to east from TG 2051 3550 to TG 2066 3545. It is circa 5m wide and only the southern ditch is visible at its western end. The southern trackway is visible for approximately 174.5m, from TG 2049 3545 to TG 2066 3539, where it meets the northwestern corner of Broome Belt. It is about 6.5m wide. A number of the other ditches, which are predominantly aligned at right angles to the trackways and are probably field boundaries, appear to cross the southern track (at TG 2060 3541, TG 2057 3542 and TG 2052 3544), but their chronological relationship is not clear. The northern track may be crossed by a ditch at TG 2054 3549.
