Summary

Part of a double concentric ring ditch of dubious archaeological origin is visible as a cropmark on aerial photographs. It is possible that it represents the remains of a Bronze Age round barrow, but the feature could also have a post medieval or modern agricultural origin.

These cropmarks were previously recorded as NHER 12815.
The eastern half of what appears to be a double concentric ring ditch is visible as cropmarks on NLA oblique aerial photographs from 1976 (S1). Given the large number of ring ditches and round barrows identified in the surrounding area (e.g. NHER 12815 120m to its southwest), together with the proximity of earlier ceremonial monuments (NHER 18190 and 13358), the possibility that the ring ditch represents the remains of a Bronze Age round barrow cannot be ruled out. The ring ditch may, however, be an agricultural cropmark of post medieval or modern date. It is not visible on any of the other aerial photographs consulted, and is only visible to the east of the cropmark of an unmapped probable post medieval field boundary or drain. The ring ditch is rather irregular in plan. The outer ditch has a diameter of approximately 48.5m. The ditches are rather discontinuous, in part due to the underlying geology and in part due to the lack of a photograph which was both clear and rectifiable.
