Birch Wood:
The earliest map seen, an Estate Map of 1818, shows the extent of the wood as it is today.
Boundary banks on south, west and north with outer flanking ditch.
Southern is most consistent, up to 5m spread and 0.5m high.
Others more erratic, with irregular spoil on heap, giving a height of up to 1m.
Mature trees on these suggest some age.
Bare chalk and flints on banks.
