Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 6 August 2021.

March 2004. Field Observation.
Visit by E. Rose (NLA).
Confirmed date of pair, the bricks have diagonal skintlings (pre 1770) but window blockings are later.
Roof of pegged taper purlins and crude rafters suits early 18th century date.
Brick floor.
Later catslide to west cottage and 2 storey extension to east cottage.
However, the former single cottage is in fact of clunch not brick.
Its gable fire windows have a late appearance; the south slope of the gable has been raised in brick tumbling, but the north slope has been cut off.
This could be an 18th century cottage with roof altered in 19th, but interior of roof was not accessible and no other features of interest on interior, except blocked doorways on two levels connecting with the pair to the west.
Local story that this was once a public house.
E. Rose (NLA) 10 March 2004.
