Summary

Metal-detecting between 2003 and 2024 recovered ?Mesolithic to Bronze Age and undatable prehistoric worked flints; medieval and post-medieval pottery; Iron Age, Roman, Saxon, medieval and post-medieval coins (including a gold stater); post-medieval jettons and tokens and Bronze Age to post-medieval metal objects. The metal finds include a Bronze Age bead; an Iron Age/Romano-British brooch; a Roman Dolphin brooch; an Early Saxon Quoit brooch; a Middle Saxon pin; medieval to post-medieval dress accessories; a medieval bead, casket key, zoomorphic binding strip from a piece of furniture and an ampulla or pilgrim bottle; a medieval/post-medieval spoon fragment and finger ring; an early post-medieval mount from a sword belt and post-medieval book clasps, a belt or harness mount, a sword belt mount, lead trade weight, cloth seal and a furniture fitting.

Post-medieval copper alloy fragment (45 x 61mm) of furniture fitting, exact function unknown, D-sectioned bar broken across off centre slot, flattened out and curving upwards ending in head of a dolphin, notch on curved edge, engraved details of eyes and fins on both sides, 17th century.

The gold bead was submitted as potential Treasure (Treasure case 2010 T447). Although initially identified as potentially Bronze Age, subsequent analysis revealed it to have a very high copper content, which argues against a Brone Age date.
