Summary

This medieval woodland contains natural ponds and pingos (hollows formed during the last ice age). These features may have been adapted for use as a deer farm and as a rabbit warren. There is also a massive bank and ditch marking the parish boundary and other internal boundaries marked by banks and ditches.

October 2025. HER Enhancement: Forestry Commission Project K.
The earthworks of potential medieval to post medieval boundary banks and ditches, pit features and mounds which may relate to natural ponds or pingos are visible across the area on visualised lidar data (S2). Further work such as ground truthing, field visits and reviewing additional sources is required to characterise the features further. As the lidar survey was flown relatively recently (2021) it is likely that the earthworks still survive.
