January 2004. Site visit.
Brick façade of five bays on two storeys; bricks laid in Flemish bond with diagonal skintlings (pre around 1780) but between northern two ground floor bays is an area of 19th to 20th century brickwork, possibly a later inserted door now blocked. Main door on 3rd bay from north, with canopy, is in line with, and has, protruding above and to one side, a rectangular blocked area (earlier overlight?). Door is in line with stack. Windows are flat arched sashes. Roof of pantiles; south gable shaped, contains blocked attic window set above platband. Base has plinth at west end and at centre, no obvious reason for break. Blocked doorway at junction with low rear (east) wing, the south wall of which is a rebuild in late brickwork, but the east elevation has three shaped gables, one of which has an internal stack. The house is not in alignment with No. 25 to the north which seems to predate it. A map of 1623 shows a house on this site. (S1) describes as late 18th century (which may however be a misprint), with later east wing, the whole building seems (from the exterior) to be early to mid 17th century with later alterations.
