Summary

This area was investigated in 2005 prior to the construction of the Vancouver Centre. However, archaeological recording in this area was quite limited. The only remains encountered were some 19th century revetting walls and a brick culvert for the Purfleet. A group of timbers in the centre of the site may may indicate the position of the earlier un-revetted southern bank of the Purfleet.

Map

July-August 2004. Excavation.
Archaeological monitoring and targeted excavation during site clearance and construction work associated with Vancouver Center redevelopment.(Area D).
Archaeological recording in this area was largely confined to watching brief observations on the grubbing-out of pile locations. This identified the location of some of the 19th century northern and southern revetting walls and culverting of the Purfleet channel. A group of timbers to the centre of the site may indicate the position of the earlier un-revetted southern bank of the Purfleet.
