Summary

Metal detecting recovered an incomplete post medieval copper alloy strap fitting. It may be related to 17th century hooked fittings which are probably associated with sword belts.

Before 24 October 2003. Metal detecting.
Post medieval incomplete copper alloy strap fitting: ovoid plate decorated with a pair of median grooves, one end missing, the other with elaborately moulded fully round finial. A fragment of sheet back plate is secured by an integral rivet close to the springing of the finial. Related to 17th century hooked fittings which are probably associated with sword belts. Like (S1) but without separate rivets. Length 50+mm, width 18.5mm.
