Full Description
April 2004. Norfolk NMP.
Cropmarks of two incomplete rectilinear enclosures of unknown, possibly Roman or post medieval, date are visible on aerial photographs (S1 and 2). These cropmarks are centred on TG 3678 2878. The southern enclosure is centred on TG 3678 2863. Three sides of this enclosure, which lies on a north to south alignment, are present. It measures at least 50m by 28m, although an isolated section of ditch continues the line of its eastern side up to a maximum length of 85m. The corner of a second rectilinear enclosure is located 300m further north at TG 3675 2893. It measures at least 100m by 45m and also lies on a north to south and east to west alignment. This enclosure appears to have been located across the ring ditch of a probable round barrow (NHER 21836). It also appears to be cut by, or across, a pit interpreted as a possible grubenhaus (NHER 38600). The western sides of both of these two enclosures are aligned and it is possible that they could form one feature, the central part of which is not visible as cropmarks. Although these cropmarks are undated, their relationship to the ring ditch and possible grubenhaus might indicate a Roman or post medieval date. They are crossed by further undated ditch cropmarks on a northwest to southeast alignment (NHER 39185).
(S1 and 2).
