Map

April 2004. Trial Trench.
Evaluation of proposed development site. From Context 1.
Alluvial silts and the presence of a number of relict stream channels associated with saltmarsh conditions were recorded. Reclamation of the marsh in the medieval period was represented by layers of dumped material. A wall foundation probably dating to the 17th century was also recorded.
A broken but almost complete glass wine bottle bearing seal of Richard Archbald and dated 1707 was also found. It is unusual to find such bottles with a seal and date, though several examples are known from Norwich.
