Summary

A post-medieval to modern extraction pit is depicted on late 19th and early 20th century maps. It was identified as an earthwork during a field survey in 2003, and is also visible as an earthwork on imagery from a lidar survey flown in 2015. It is probable that the earthwork still survives.

The extraction pit described above is visible as an earthwork on imagery from a lidar survey flown in 2015 (S2). It is depicted on late 19th and early 20th century Ordnance Survey maps (S3)-(S4), and is presumably of post-medieval to modern date. As such, it falls outside the scope of the project and has not been mapped. The polygon defining the site, however, has been amended to correlate with the position of the pit on the lidar imagery. Given the relatively recent date of both the lidar survey and the field survey described above, it is probable that the earthwork still survives.
The mapped extent of this pit was expanded from a point to a polygon [1].
