Summary

A metal detecting survey recovered a medieval or post medieval hammered silver coin and a medieval of post medieval jetton. The survey was set up to test if there was any evidence for Saxon settlement close to the church. No evidence of Saxon occupation was found to the north of the church. Map

2003. Metal detector survey in field immediately north of Hickling parish church.
To investigate the possibility that there may be a Middle Saxon or Late Saxon settlement focus in the area.
Few finds of any date were found, and all were medieval or post medieval, including a hammered silver coin and a jetton. Although Anglo-Saxon occupation may have been close to the church, it seems apparent that it was not to the north.
