Full Description
July 2004, Norfolk NMP.
A pit and two possible enclosures are visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs (S1-2), centred at TG 2232 3972. Since so little of what is likely to be a larger site is visible on the consulted aerial photographs, it is difficult to ascribe a date or function to the features. The pit could be a quarry pit; small quarry pits are visible both as cropmarks and earthworks on aerial photographs and are depicted on historic maps of the area. The linear ditches may define a rectilinear enclosure or field with the pit located in its north-east corner. The remains of what may be a small polygonal enclosure are visible adjoined to the eastern side of this. Other unmapped cropmarks visible in the same field are likely to be of geological or agricultural origin.
The pit is diamond-shaped in plan and measures approximately 12m long and 10.5m wide. The possible polygonal enclosure measures at least 11m wide. (S1-2)
