NHER 40607 (Building record) - Beech House, Norwich Road (formerly The Bull Inn)

February 1984. Listed, Grade II.
Listing Description Excerpt:
"House. 17th century and 19th century. Timber framed with brick skin and slate roof. 2 storeys in 3 bays. Central door in timber case flanked by one sash window left and right with 3 to first floor, all with glazing bars under gauged skewback arches. Gabled roof with end stacks."

The house incorporates The Bull Inn which dominated the Norwich road at the entry to the market place. Once on a curtilage of generous size building plots on the north and east sides were sold off from 1577 onwards. Despite this diminution and accusation of a disorderly house in 1561 and unlawful games in 1577 it remained an inn until the late 18th century.
