Summary

An archaeological evaluation revealed only post medieval pits and a posthole and perhaps a pond. This probably indicates that when the ground was lowered to form the bowling green all archaeological evidence for the medieval town was destroyed.

December 1995. Trial Trench.
Evaluation of proposed development site.
Revealed only pits and a posthole, and perhaps a pond containing post medieval building material. Probably indicates that lowering of ground level to form bowling green had removed archaeological layers.
